What is Abeam?
Abeam is a daily training app for pilots: think Duolingo, but for aviation. It combines an ATC radio simulator with 195 graded scenarios, daily quizzes tuned to your rating track, sectional symbology and METAR decoding games, and streaks that keep you studying a few minutes every day. It's on the App Store for iPhone.
Is Abeam like Duolingo for pilots?
That's the idea. Short daily sessions, streaks, games, and mastery tracking. It's the habit mechanics of a language app applied to aviation knowledge: radio phraseology, regulations, weather, and chart symbology.
Does it help with checkride prep?
Yes. Daily quizzes cover the knowledge areas of the oral with FAR/AIM-cited explanations, and the radio simulator lets you practice every call out loud before the checkride, from taxi with hold-shorts to IFR clearances and emergencies.
I'm already certificated. Why would I use it?
Because the forgetting starts right after the checkride. A few minutes a day keeps regulations, weather, and radio phraseology sharp between flights, so your next flight review (BFR), IPC, or unfamiliar towered airport isn't a scramble. That's the situation Abeam was built for.
How does the radio simulator grade me?
You hear the controller with a realistic voice, press push-to-talk, and speak your readback. Abeam grades it against real-world standards, accepting proper phraseology variations the way an actual controller would, and flagging what a controller would make you say again.
How much does Abeam cost?

Does time on a home simulator count toward currency?
No. Abeam's sim assignments are practice sessions. Time in an uncertificated home simulator such as MSFS or X-Plane is not loggable, and BATD or AATD time counts only within 14 CFR 61.51 and that device's FAA approval letter.
Is Abeam available on Android?
Not yet. Abeam is built for iPhone and available on the App Store.
Is it a substitute for a CFI?
No. Abeam is a study aid. It makes the knowledge stick between lessons and between flights, but it's not flight instruction and not a source of official aeronautical information. Your CFI and current FAA publications always win.
