Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Jorge Ruiz, doing business as Abeam ("Abeam," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Abeam mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By using Abeam, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide Directly

• Account information: email address, password (stored as a cryptographic hash, never in plain text), and your name
• Profile information: rating track (e.g., Private Pilot, Instrument, Commercial), aircraft information, and other preferences you choose to provide
• Study materials: documents (PDFs, images) you upload to generate custom practice questions
• Voice recordings: when you use the Radio Simulator's push-to-talk feature, your microphone records your radio readback. The recording is sent to our transcription provider to convert it to text for grading, and is not retained by us after transcription — only the text transcript and your scores are stored
• Communications: messages you send us via support channels

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

• Usage data: quiz attempts, answers, scores, streaks, time spent in the app, features used
• Website usage: pages viewed on flyabeam.com, links clicked, and the referring source or advertising campaign (from the link you arrived by)
• Device information: device type, operating system version, app version, language settings, time zone
• Log data: IP address, access timestamps, error reports, performance metrics
• Authentication tokens: to keep you signed in across sessions

1.3 Payment Information

If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by Stripe and/or Apple (for App Store purchases). We do not store your full credit card information on our servers. We receive only limited transaction metadata such as subscription status, plan tier, and transaction identifiers.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
• Generate personalized practice questions from your uploaded study materials
• Track your progress, streaks, and proficiency across study topics
• Process subscription payments and manage your account
• Communicate with you about account updates, new features, and support
• Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues
• Comply with legal obligations
• Analyze usage patterns to improve the Service

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3. Third-Party Services

Abeam relies on the following third-party services to operate. Each has its own privacy practices governed by its own privacy policy:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage infrastructure
• Anthropic (Claude API) — AI-powered question generation from uploaded documents and automated review of reported quiz questions. Document content is sent to Anthropic to produce study questions; per Anthropic's API terms, this data is not used to train their models.
• OpenAI (Whisper API) — speech-to-text transcription of your Radio Simulator voice readbacks. Per OpenAI's API terms, API data is not used to train their models.
• Google (Gemini API) — AI grading of radio readback transcripts. Per Google's paid-tier API terms, this data is not used to train their models.
• ElevenLabs — voice synthesis for ATC transmissions in the radio practice simulator
• OneSignal — delivery of push notifications (study reminders), if you enable them
• RevenueCat — subscription status management for App Store purchases
• Apple App Store — payment processing and subscription management for App Store purchases
• Stripe — payment processing for subscriptions purchased outside the App Store
• Resend — delivery of account emails such as password resets and confirmations
• Sentry — crash and error reporting. When the app encounters an error, a report containing the error, the app version, your device type and OS version, and your account ID is sent so we can find and fix it. No screen contents are captured.
• PostHog — product and website analytics. In the app, we record which screens you visit and which features you use (for example, completing a quiz or a radio session), tied to your account ID. On flyabeam.com, we record page views and which links you click, together with the advertising campaign that referred you, so we can tell which campaigns bring pilots who actually find Abeam useful. Website visitors are not identified — we do not build a profile for you unless you have an Abeam account and are signed in. We do not record your screen, and PostHog is configured to discard your IP address rather than store it.
• Hosting providers — for application hosting

We share information with these providers only as necessary to deliver the Service.

4. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period thereafter to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

You may request deletion of your account at any time (see Section 7). Upon deletion, we will remove your personal information from our active systems within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., tax records, fraud prevention logs).

Backup copies may persist for up to 90 days before automatic deletion.

5. Data Security

We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest for sensitive data, hashed passwords, and access controls.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work continuously to maintain reasonable protections.

6. Children's Privacy

Abeam is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

For users aged 13-17, we recommend involvement of a parent or legal guardian, especially for any paid subscription decisions.

If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@flyabeam.com and we will delete the information promptly.

7. Your Rights and Choices

7.1 Access and Update

You can access and update your account information directly within the app. For information not editable in-app, contact us at support@flyabeam.com.

7.2 Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time through the account settings in the app or by emailing support@flyabeam.com. Account deletion permanently removes your personal information from our active systems within 30 days.

7.3 California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including:

• The right to know what personal information we collect, use, and share
• The right to delete personal information we hold about you
• The right to correct inaccurate personal information
• The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell personal information)
• The right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights

7.4 European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland Residents

If you are located in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including:

• The right to access, rectify, or erase your personal information
• The right to restrict or object to processing
• The right to data portability
• The right to withdraw consent
• The right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

The legal bases on which we process your information include performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests, your consent (where applicable), and compliance with legal obligations.

8. Cookies and Similar Technologies

The Service uses cookies and similar technologies to maintain your session, remember your preferences, and analyze usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling them may affect functionality.

9. International Data Transfers

Abeam is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. We rely on appropriate legal safeguards for these transfers.

10. Aviation-Specific Notice

Information you provide about your aviation activities — including aircraft details, rating track, and uploaded study materials — is used solely to personalize your study experience within Abeam. We do not report your activity to the FAA, your CFI, your employer, or any other third party except as required by law or as expressly authorized by you.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. For material changes, we will provide additional notice via the app or email. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
